Cuba 2016

Many voyagers from the US have gone the distance to plan, do the USCG3300, additional paperwork, and read everthing to prepare.  Every group has it's own experiences and this is ours.

It was back in March when planning began and the group was formed.

We are;

Marquesa a 34' Oday' sailboat with Donnie and Mary Jo

GeniGreen a 38' Kennex Catamaran with Jay, Marilyn, and Inaki.

Toby a 36" C&C sailboat with Paul and his son Johnny.

Moderate to experienced sailing is a must as a crossing through the gulf stream and good taking expeience will make your trip an easy plan.  Then waiting for the right weather and good charts and navigation is a must.

Our Research included

Two  Sailing guides from Waterways and Lonely planet Cuba Book. Paper charts as well as garmin chips and navonics in ipads.

Here are some of the videos that got us excited. but as you will find making your own and sharing your personal experiences is what it is all about.

We went on a "people2people" and experiencing a new world. At least to us. Marathon to Varadero to Havana to Dry Tortugas to Marathon.  Our plan and then what we did.

First leg is from Marathon, Key Colony Marker #1 to Cuba Marker #18 and on to Gaviata Marina. 116 miles total sailing on a beam reach in aproximately 20 hours.
